SALEM RED SOX
Haley Toyota Field
Architecture & History
Haley Toyota Field opened in 1995 as Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium — a civic tribute to area veterans. The renaming in 2020 to corporate sponsorship was a point of local controversy. The Blue Ridge Mountain backdrop remains the park's defining physical characteristic.
At 1,100 feet elevation in the Roanoke Valley, Haley Toyota Field is among the higher-altitude Carolina League venues. The Blue Ridge mountains visible from the first base upper deck are the most dramatic natural sightline in Virginia minor league baseball.

The Food
Virginia Blue Ridge Brisket Plate
Smoker Stand
Salem sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwest Virginia. The brisket plate — oak-smoked beef brisket, vinegar slaw, and cornbread — reflects the Appalachian Mountain BBQ tradition distinct from coastal NC and piedmont VA.
Pimento Cheese Burger
Main Grill
The Southwest Virginia take on the burger: a thick beef patty with housemade pimento cheese spread, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted bun. Pimento cheese is the cheese of Virginia and the Carolinas.
Apple Cider Donut
Snack Stand
Southwest Virginia is apple country — the Shenandoah Valley's orchards are a short drive north. Fresh-fried apple cider donuts are a seasonal staple at Haley Toyota Field.
Sox Dog
Throughout ballpark
Classic all-beef frank with mustard and relish.
The Beer
Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers Ridgeline IPA
Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers · Roanoke, VA
Soaring Ridge is the premier Roanoke Valley craft brewery — Salem's immediate neighbor. The Ridgeline IPA references the Blue Ridge Mountains that define the local skyline.
Devils Backbone Brewing Vienna Lager
Devils Backbone Brewing · Roseland, VA
Virginia's most awarded craft brewery. The Vienna Lager is their flagship — a clean, malt-forward lager that has won more awards than any other Virginia craft beer.
Bud Light
Anheuser-Busch
Standard high-volume pour.
Coors Light
Molson Coors
Rocky Mountain lager — the Boston Red Sox parent club's geographic opposite, but a Roanoke Valley volume staple.
Sun & Weather Guide
Salem's Blue Ridge setting moderates temperature
Salem sits at 1,100 feet elevation in the Roanoke Valley, which moderates temperatures compared to coastal Virginia. Evening games from April through June are near-perfect.
Roanoke Valley summer humidity
July and August afternoons in the Roanoke Valley reach 90°F with high humidity. The mountain setting offers some cooling but day games remain demanding.
Best views at golden hour
The Blue Ridge Mountain backdrop at Haley Toyota Field is most spectacular in the golden hour before evening games — aim to arrive 45 minutes early.
Insider Tips
The One Thing
The Blue Ridge Mountain views from the upper concourse are stunning in the golden hour before evening games. Get there early and walk the upper deck along the first base line.
The Must-Eat
The Virginia Blue Ridge brisket plate reflects genuine Appalachian mountain BBQ. Southwest Virginia has a distinct smoke culture separate from coastal NC and Tidewater VA.
Best Seat
Third base side upper sections (10 rows up) give you the full Blue Ridge panorama beyond the outfield.
Getting There
Salem is served by I-81 just south of Roanoke. The Roanoke Regional Airport is 15 minutes away — one of the more accessible minor league ballparks by air in the Southeast.
