ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES

Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park

Albuquerque, NMEst. 200313,500 seatsAAA

The park named after a Simpsons episode. The Albuquerque Isotopes took their name from a 2001 episode in which Springfield's team threatens to relocate to Albuquerque as the Isotopes. The city — which actually houses Sandia National Laboratories — embraced it completely. Isotopes Park opened in 2003 with the Sandia Mountains as the backdrop, a green chile cheeseburger program, and the most self-aware franchise name in professional baseball.

Architecture & History

Isotopes Park was designed by HOK Sport and opened April 11, 2003. The team name derives from a 2001 Simpsons episode.

The Sandia Mountains form the eastern backdrop — the 10,678-foot granite crest turns watermelon pink at sunset. 'Sandia' means watermelon in Spanish.

At 5,312 feet, Isotopes Park is the second-highest active professional baseball stadium after Coors Field.
