BINGHAMTON RUMBLE PONIES
Mirabito Stadium
Mirabito Stadium sits at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers — the geographic center of the Southern Tier of New York. Binghamton was once called the 'Carousel Capital of the World' for its six antique carousels, all built in the early 20th century and still operational. The Rumble Ponies name is a direct reference to the carousel horses. The Mets pipeline runs through a small, faithful river city with one of minor league baseball's most inventive team identities.

Architecture & History
Mirabito Stadium was designed by Populous and opened May 4, 1992 as Binghamton Municipal Stadium. The park sits at the geographic heart of New York's Southern Tier — the strip of counties along the Pennsylvania border from Elmira to Binghamton — at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers.
Binghamton's 'Carousel Capital of the World' designation comes from six antique carousels built in the early 20th century by Allan Herschell and other carousel manufacturers — all still operational in the city's parks and all still charging five cents for a ride. The Rumble Ponies name (adopted 2016) directly references the carousel horses: a brilliant piece of minor league branding that is funny, local, and genuinely meaningful simultaneously.
The spiedie sandwich is Binghamton's most specific food contribution to American cuisine — the marinated meat-on-skewer-on-Italian-bread tradition from the Italian immigrant community of the 1930s has spread throughout Upstate New York but remains most concentrated here. The annual Binghamton Spiedie Fest draws 100,000 people.

Mirabito Stadium evening games along the Susquehanna River corridor are comfortable from May through September. Binghamton's river valley location moderates summer temperatures.
Upstate NY humidity — milder than coastal cities
Binghamton summer afternoons are warm but Upstate New York humidity is less severe than New York City or coastal cities. Still — evening games preferred in July and August.
Southern Tier spring — cold start, great finish
Early season games in Binghamton can be cold — the Southern Tier sees late-season cold snaps. Pack layers for April and early May.
First base grandstand — afternoon shade develops
The first base grandstand develops afternoon shade earlier than the third base side. Preferred seating for summer afternoon games.
Insider Tips
The One Thing
Order a spiedie from Lupo's Char-Pit and eat it the correct way — pull the skewer through the Italian bread so the bread captures the marinated meat. The spiedie is Binghamton's invention. Lupo's has been making them since 1948.
Carousels
Ride a carousel before the game. Binghamton has six antique carousels in its parks — all still operating at five cents per ride. Ross Park Carousel and Recreation Park Carousel are both within 10 minutes of Mirabito Stadium.
Cooperstown Day Trip
Cooperstown — the Baseball Hall of Fame — is 70 miles north on Route 28. A Rumble Ponies game combined with a Hall of Fame visit is the most complete baseball pilgrimage available in upstate New York.
Parking Reality
Mirabito Stadium has parking adjacent to the stadium along Henry Street and the river corridor. Downtown Binghamton is small and navigable. Parking is generally available close to the park.
Best Value Seat
First base lower grandstand — afternoon shade development, good Susquehanna River sight line to the north, and well-priced for the Eastern League market. Order a spiedie from the main concourse and settle in.
Pilgrim Stops Near Binghamton
Weird, wonderful, and worth the detour.
The Upside-Down Traffic Light
The only green-on-top traffic light in the United States. Irish immigrants on Tipperary Hill kept smashing the 'British red' above 'Irish green' until the city gave up and inverted it permanently.
World's Largest Glacial Pothole
A coal miner set off explosives in 1884 and accidentally uncovered a 38-foot-deep Ice Age hole. It held 140,000 gallons of meltwater. You can look straight down into the Earth.
Erie Canal Museum
Housed in the only surviving weighlock building in the country — where boats were literally weighed. The 1825 canal that connected the Great Lakes to New York City started here.
