BIRMINGHAM BARONS

Regions Field

Birmingham, ALEst. 20138,500 seatsAA

Regions Field opened in 2013 in Birmingham's Parkside district — a modern ballpark that anchored the revitalisation of the city's urban core. Birmingham is the most important city in Southern League history — the Barons are the league's most-titled franchise (9 championships), the stadium where Michael Jordan played in 1994, and a city whose civil rights history, steel industry heritage, and emerging food scene give every game an extraordinary cultural context.

Architecture & History

Regions Field opened in 2013, returning professional baseball to downtown Birmingham after a long absence. The park was designed by Populous and built on the site of the former Sloss Fences industrial area near the railroad district.

Birmingham's baseball history runs deep, from the Black Barons of the Negro Leagues to the current Barons. The park's industrial-chic design honors the city's steel-making legacy with exposed steel and brick elements throughout.

Located in the Parkside District, Regions Field has catalyzed a wave of restaurants, breweries, and apartments. The nearby Rotary Trail connects the ballpark to Railroad Park and the city's expanding greenway network.

Insider Tips

01

The One Thing

Order the Alabama white sauce smoked chicken and a Good People Snake Handler DIPA. Alabama white sauce — mayonnaise, vinegar, pepper — on smoked chicken is the most specific Alabama food experience at any professional baseball game.

02

Civil Rights Heritage

Visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and 16th Street Baptist Church before the game. The most important civil rights history in America is within 10 minutes of Regions Field.

03

Vulcan Park

Drive to Vulcan Park on Red Mountain before the game — the 56-foot cast iron Vulcan overlooks all of Birmingham and provides the most complete view of the city's geography.

04

Parking Reality

Regions Field has surface parking lots in the Parkside district off 1st Avenue South. Downtown Birmingham is navigable by car and parking is accessible close to the park.

05

Best Value Seat

Third base lower grandstand — the Birmingham skyline is to the north, Vulcan on Red Mountain visible to the south, and the Alabama BBQ smell from the concourse carries everywhere.
